Physical Education classes today are not as you may remember it. Today’s P.E. classes are educational and they are fun! Students learn skills that they will continue to use to live happy and healthy lives.
What’s happening in Physical Education?
All students took part in an initial physical fitness test using the President’s Challenge. The President’s Challenge has been around for years and focused in the past on athletics more than health. Today we are focused on teaching students how to be healthy throughout their lives and therefore strive to have each student achieve the Health-Fitness standard indicating healthy scores in all aspects of fitness.

Because students of elementary school age often do not have an active role in what they eat or participate in, I ask parents to please assist us by encouraging an active lifestyle outside of school (rather than TV and video games) and sending healthy snacks to school.

Fourth Grade Dance Program
Last year we received a grant through Community Health and Counselling (CHCS) and have started a dance program for fourth grade students as part of the Physical Education program. For one hour each Wednesday, Mr. Tom McGary, a professional dancer comes into our school and works with students in one fourth grade classroom. Tom combines ballet, jazz, hip hop, etc. into a routine performed by the participating class at the end of a ten week period. Students also benefit from working on balance, rythmn, and body awareness.
